Avoriaz is the highest resort in the enormous Portes du Soleil ski area.

It’s a purpose built, car free ski resort where all of the accommodation is ski in, ski out. It’s unique in it’s design but love it or hate it, Avoriaz is where it all goes on during the winter season.

Known collectively as Morzine-Avoriaz, the two resorts couldn’t be more different. While Morzine is a characterful French working town and a ski resort, Avoriaz is modern and growing to serve the winter holiday market. Over the last two years hundreds of new apartments or ‘residences’ have appeared and there’s a new water park too.

Avoriaz connects to Morzine on the Super Morzine ski area – it’s a really easy ski link, suitable for all ability levels. In Avoriaz itself there is something for everyone. Seasonaires will find discounted beer at many of the bars including Le Tavaillon and Cafe Fantastique. Le Yak and Shooters will become your late night drinking venues of choice, and you’ll find them packed out with other season workers. Most of the bars in Avoriaz stay open until 3am at the earliest.

Each winter Avoriaz becomes the base for many national ski and snowboard teams and freestyle camps, probably on account of it’s snow-sure altitude. Avoriaz hosts lots of freestyle and slopestyle competitions each winter in it’s Arare and La Chapelle parks. It’s also the home of the Burton Stash – a freestyle park made from naturally formed trees and other obstacles. Avoriaz also links you to the Swiss ski resorts of Les Crosets, Champery and Morgins.
