Probably one of the best know ski resorts in Europe, Val d’Isere is part of the Espace Killy ski area, with over 300km of linked piste to explore.

It’s hard to image the modern Val d’Isere as it’s original small farming village, but the expansion of tourism has been well handled in Val d’Isere. There’s no tall, imposing architecture here, just beautiful stone and wood clad chalets, shops, bars and restaurants.

Because of it’s location on some of the highest peaks of the French Alps, bordering Italy, Val d’Isere has an excellent snow record. The neighboring resort of Tignes hosts the Winter X Games each year for this very reason. Holiday accommodation in Val d’Isere is predominantly chalet style with a few large hotels. This means there are loads of opportunities for season work in the resort.

La Folie Douce is a Val d’Isere legend when it comes to apres parties. Calling itself the ‘highest club in Europe’, the bar / restaurant / club is located at the top of a gondola lift, on the pistes just above Val d’Isere. The terrace gets packed during apres when DJs and dancers perform from the roof, in the snow. La Folie Douce is often referred to as the best European apres ski has to offer. If we’re honest, we can’t really remember, but we know we had fun.
