WHY MORZINE IS THE BEST PLACE TO DO A SEASON….
Why should you come to Morzine to do a season? It’s simple really. Morzine has it all. The snow, the sport, the nightlife, the food and drink and most importantly the crowd. You won’t regret leaving the 9-5 pattern behind and setting off for a winter or a summer of mountain madness in one of the most sought after destinations in Europe. The role of a seasonaire is simple really. It’s your job to work hard and play even harder. During the winter months Morzine is riddled with people escaping the reality of home life and swapping it for a chance to be paid to have fun. What’s not to like? But with resorts like Morzine all across Europe, why should you pick here? I’ll tell you.
Nestled away in a valley surrounded by Mountains in the Portes du Soleil, the village of Morzine is a hive of activity. With easy access to skiing across the whole region – you’ve got the entire Portes du Soleil at your fingertips. You can head over to the picturesque pistes of Avoiraz to try out one of the many snow parks, or stashes, if you fancy something a little nearer you can head up the Pleney and down into Les Gets and across to the slopes of Nyon. And if this isn’t enough, thanks to the creation of two brand new lifts, you can easily descend into Chatel as well. Most employers will provide you with a Portes du Soleil lift pass ensuring that you don’t miss a beat when it comes to time on the snow. The season in Morzine is also pretty long meaning average powder time is up there with the best of them. We keep the snow well into April and May- with the slopes in Avoriaz staying open the longest. When they open depends on the snow really but you’re looking at mid to late December for the true start of the season.
Morzine is also a great place for nightlife. Wednesday’s are the big night during the winter because it’s the seasonaire night off. Most companies think it’s important for you to really enjoy life out here and make it an experience to remember. So they let you all party together at one of the resorts many bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Bar Rhodos, Robinson’s, Chez Roger and Le Tremplin are all favourites with the seasonaire crew and seem to be the places of choice for the start of your heavy nights out. You’ll then find that most move onto Coyotes, the Tibetan, Beanies and the infamous Opera nightclub for dancing and drinking into the early hours. You’ve only made it as a seasonaire when you’ve lost your phone in Opera and told everyone about it on the Morzine facebook page.
In addition to all of this, Morzine isn’t just about the snow and the nightlife. It’s much more than that. As the snow starts to melt on the ground in the village a wealth of other activities open up to you. This year, from early March, there were road bikers out attempting the world famous Morzine climbs, trail runners braving the wooded sheltered paths and hikers attempting some of the highest peaks in the area. The spring sun was so hot it was easy to get a tan and sunbathe whilst people were still skiing and boarding on the surrounding slopes. The lake at Montriond is a favourite with Seasonaires as soon as the sun comes out providing an idyllic spot for big bbqs, picnics and sunbathing parties. It’s blue water and the surrounding mountains make it one of the most beautiful places in the area
So I’ve persuaded you to come to Morzine. It didn’t take long did it?
The problem now comes in finding the job in Morzine that means you can stay here and really enjoy the season! There are loads of different jobs to choose one but they’re in high demand so you’ve got to stand out. The main employment opportunities come in Chalet work, so hosting, cooking, cleaning, driving and childcare. You’ll want to spend as much time on the snow as possible, I can understand that, but companies over here want hard workers. They don’t care what you’ve done before, what highflying job in London you had or what money you were on, they want reliable, enthusiastic and flexible employees. If you promise that you’ll do fine!
Sharon McCrae, boss at Cheeky Monkeys childcare: “ I want people who are keen and actually want to the job, are presentable with good references”
So leave your snowboard pants at home for the interview.
When it comes to seasonal accommodation, lots of the companies you could be working for will provide that. However, we think it’s best to really throw yourself into Morzine life. Get yourself into a chalet share, meet some people, share some experiences, and most of all have the season of your life. You’re guaranteed that if you come to Morzine.
Trust me, I came here for a short stay and never left.
